Marc Andre Fleury has been goal tending like a mad man and led the Penguins to two back-to-back wins, Wednesday over the Calgary Flames and Thursday over the Edmonton Oilers.
Prior to leaving for this five game West Coast trip, we all know that Pittsburgh was experiencing a serious slump. Forward Evgeni Malkin still is. But this trip came at the right time to grant a fresh start for the team, and so far that is exactly what its done.
Notching three wins and one loss, the team seems to be regrouping to make that long awaited comeback and finish strong right before the Olympic break.
That infamous third line of Jordan Staal, Matt Cooke, and Tyler Kennedy continue to get the job done. Kennedy and Cooke both had goals last night, ans Staal had assisted on all three Pittsburgh goals.
All three goals by the way happened in the third period, unanswered. The Oilers lost a 2-0 lead, and subsequently lost the whole game.
The team superstars of Malkin and Captain Crosby have not been contributing much offensively during this road trip. Sid is always still a superstar, and the team could not continue without him, but it is refreshing to see that third line just dominate the game.
I feel like Evgeni Malkin rose to popularity with those crazy kind of goals that stop the show and require lots of effort from Geno Geno alone. He hasn't been able to put one of those behind the net though, since about the Playoffs. I miss it very much, I do. But perhaps for now, he needs to build the sort of line relationship that Staal, Kennedy, and Cooke have in order to best put his amazing Russian skills to work.
I guess we shall see. But keep up the winning Pittsburgh Penguins, Next Game is Saturday versus Vancouver.
