To be honest, I thought that this game was going to stay tied at zero until going into overtime. The Detroit Red Wings & the Pittsburgh Penguins have established some very physical play and a strong rival in their consecutive quests for the cup.
Today was certainly not disappointing either. Each team did manage to squeeze out one goal-- one from Sid and one from Cleary. Osgood was not in goal, but Howard seems to be proving his worth in his absence.
Marc Andre Fleury was awarded number three star, and I must say that he deserved it staying strong through three periods of play, an overtime period, and allowing a total of ZERO goals on the shootout.
Yes! I said shootout! These two teams rarely make it to a shootout, because in the playoffs overtimes just pile up. (Thanks again to Petr Sykora for scoring in triple overtime back in '08, even though you pretty much fell off the face of the earth after your concussion and Minnesota getting rid of you.)
So yes, as expected Letang, Sidney Crosby, and Geno Malkin comprised Pittsburgh's shootout lineup. I might have chosen Billy Guerin, but they did okay without him, maybe he was fourth in line?
With an insanely high and fast goal from Sid, and a pretty much slow-motion, time-stopping shot from Malkin, Pittsburgh wraps it up and makes it look too easy. It is almost difficult to call what Geno did a "shot" because it was in such slow motion and skill it was more like a deliberate place.
Pens play again tomorrow home against the Sabres, 7pm sharp.
